Citrus County is a sportsman’s paradise consisting of miles of public parks and nature preserves including the huge Withlacoochee State Forest with its scenic nature and hiking trails. To the west is the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge, a natural habitat for a large variety of wading birds and wildlife. Environmentally and ecologically conscious, Citrus County has set aside over 152,000 acres out of 683 square miles to preserve wildlife. In Citrus County you will find, in addition to the historic sites such as the Yulee Sugarmill and Indian Mound Museum, a variety of more contemporary attractions which include the Ted William’s Baseball Museum, the Printing Museum, the Naber Doll Factory and the Citrus County Speedway. Citrus County boasts a choice of 30 parks, 14 golf courses, 10 marinas, 9 campgrounds, 7 rivers, 2 beaches and a game preserve. Citrus County is just 42 miles from the bustling city of Tampa and 65 miles from the tourists and congestion in the Orlando area. Yet in less than 30 minutes by way of the new Suncoast Parkway, Sugarmill Woods residents can be in one of the newest and largest malls in the Tampa Bay area and in less than 60 minutes Sugarmill Woods residents can be at the Tampa International Airport!! |
